Welcome to World Dance Company in Gothenburg, Sweden!

You don´t need to know swedish to dance at World Dance Company. Dance is an universal language and when needed: all our teachers know english and are happy to translate. We offer Flamenco, Argentinean tango, Indian Odissi Dance, Bollywood dance, Oriental dance, Belly dance, Lindy Hop and Sevillanas. Dance classes and performances.

WDC is a group of choreographers, dancers, musicians, actors and teachers who want to give  people new experiences and a chance to meet the Indian, Spanish and Argentinean cultures in an entertaining way. WDC creates dance performances with Argentinean tango, Indian odissi and Spanish flamenco for all ages with rhythms, colour and music. We mix dance with theatre and music, modern avant-garde with traditions. The audience is seduced by sensual tango, passionate flamenco and classic, graceful odissi performed with energy, joy and drama. The performances can be combined with workshops at different levels and lectures about the colourful heritage of the dances to give a more profound experience.

World Dance Company started in 1996 under the name El Jaleo. Then we offered performances of tango and flamenco, and in 2003 the Indian dance became a part of our repertoire. At our 10th anniversary in 2006 we changed the name to World Dance Company to better reflect our current activity. We are today the most important forum for tango, flamenco and Indian dance in the west of Sweden with a broad repertoire of performances in various formats. In the last couple of years we have given about 70 performances each year for people aged 6-100. Our performances have been seen at schools, municipalities, theatre- and music scenes, festivals, museums and companies.

People who want to dance themselves also come to WDC for whole semester classes, weekend courses and workshops with our own experienced teachers or prominent dancers invited from around the world. We also make shorter dance appearances, lectures and introduction courses at conferences, companies, bachelor parties, weddings and other festive occasions.

WDC is run by professional choreographers, dancers, musicians, actors and teachers trained both in Sweden and in Argentina, India and Spain. Our artists are members of the organisations for freelance dancers and musicians in west Sweden, Danscentrum Väst and Musikcentrum Väst. WDC cooperates with different organisations, among others The Gothenburg City Theatre. We receive support for our projects from Gothenburg City, the region of west Sweden, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, the Swedish artists and musicians organisation SAMI, Folkuniversitetet and others.
